We are delighted to share the second entry in our journal series, highlighting a unique hands-on event held on July 25, 2026, in collaboration with Kyoto-based Sake World.
Unlike a traditional sake tasting, this workshop invited participants to become sake blenders themselves, creating their own one-of-a-kind Original Blend Sake while discovering a new dimension of Japanese sake culture.

Sake World: Bringing the Art of Sake Blending from Kyoto
Originating in Kyoto, Sake World has introduced an innovative way to experience Japanese sake through the art of blending.
While sake is traditionally enjoyed as the finished expression crafted by a brewery, this workshop offered participants the rare opportunity to become creators themselves. Using 12 carefully selected sake varieties—including Daiginjo, Junmai, and aged sake (Koshu)—each guest explored how different aromas, textures, and flavors could be combined into a completely original creation.
This unique concept transforms sake appreciation from passive tasting into an interactive cultural experience.
The Workshop and Original Blend Experience
Guests used laboratory equipment—including beakers, test tubes, and pipettes—to carefully measure and blend different sake.
Each participant created two original 40ml blends, experimenting with multiple combinations while discovering how even subtle changes in proportion could dramatically transform aroma, balance, and finish.
Participants who found a favorite recipe can have their blend professionally reproduced by Sake World in Kyoto and bottled with a personalized label, creating a truly one-of-a-kind sake that exists nowhere else in the world.

Some memorable comments from participants included:
"It was my first time blending sake. It felt just like a science experiment, and I completely lost track of time."
"This would make an amazing personalized gift for family, friends, or valued clients."
"Interestingly, my blend turned out better when I stopped overthinking it."
Key Takeaways for the Global Sake Market

- Experiential tourism with lasting value: Recreating a favorite blend with a personalized label transforms the experience into a meaningful souvenir and a memorable story to take home.
